Peer Pressure: Reading the Fourth Wing series

You know, there are times when peer pressure is one of the worst things that can be made.  Things that you said you wouldn’t do are being challenged.  There are moments when that pressure causes you to make decisions that you would not make.  This is not one of those times.  Recently, I was pressured to finish what is available of the Fourth Wing series (Fourth Wing, Iron Flame, Onyx Storm) by Rebecca Yarros.  My friends and I made a little book club so that we could discuss the books through text, TikTok, and in person.  So, for this review, I want to thank Emily and Jordan for being the book bullies that I needed.

Part of the reason why I have to be bullied is because I have a system with my books.  I read them in the order that I buy them.  This is so that I am not constantly reading the same types of books and the same authors.  Also, I had a system, and I liked my system. Lol.  The hardest part of this was not following my system.  But now that I can say that I appreciate the push.  It was a wonderful bonding experience with my friend.

When we had last left off, there was a cliffhanger at the end of Fourth Wing.  I can tell you that the endings of the other two books are not better.  The story becomes so much more complex, with twists and turns everywhere. It is more complicated than I thought to do two book reviews at one time.  So much time has passed since I read them, but that is a me problem.  One thing I will say is that if you have favorites, be ready for them to die.  The main crew has survived for now, literally for now.  I wouldn’t be surprised if in the new book there is a character that will make me throw the book through a window.  Honestly, that is one of the things that I love about this series. The story pulls you in until something crazy happens. You have to reach out to people, like, “What just happened?”

Violet is going through homicidal teachers, her own loss, and traveling the continents looking for answers to her Venin problem.  Never mind the whole issue with Xaden.  Xaden needs to be his own post because from book one to book three, Xaden has completely changed, in a good way.  There is so much to unpack.  And of course, Onyx Storm ends on a cliff hanger, and there is not a release date for the next book!!! If you read Onyx Storm and there is no new book waiting for you in the series, prepare yourself to be in limbo, waiting for the next book.  I am currently there.

If you can’t tell, I really enjoyed the books and am excited for the next one. While I am waiting for that book, my friend introduced me to the Maasverse, the books by Sarah J. Maas. There are seventeen books in this series. It will take me a while to read, so more manic reviews to come! Again, Thank you, Emily, for the pressure.
