Remember in last week’s review, I stated that I wanted to read books out of my comfort zone? This week’s book falls perfectly into that category. At first glance, this book is so far out there and beyond the whelm of possibility. Something kept pulling me back in while I was at the bookstore. This week’s book is Ice Planet Barbarians by Ruby Dixon. Reading this took me back to the heyday of Ellora’s Cave. Ellora’s Cave is a now-defunct publishing group. At one point, they were the place to go for steamy novels. Sci-fi, contemporary, historical? Ellora’s Cave had it. Mostly, their books were easy to read and had great stories.

This story starts with a group of women being kidnapped off Earth. They have no idea where they are heading or why. After the ship they are in has some difficulties, the cargo (the women) is dropped on a frozen planet. While trying to survive and get help, Georgie meets Vektal, an alien barbarian convinced she is his mate. They come together to fight strange creatures and help the other women survive. This first book is the introduction to the ice planet and the barbarians. The most significant conflict for the women is their coming to terms with their circumstances.
This book is very smutty. Once a barbarian meets his mate, all he thinks about is sex. So, there might be some uncomfortable scenes for some. Consent is something that has to be explained to the barbarians. It is a concept that they pick up quickly, for the most part. I can tell this is not going to be a book for everyone. There are some things you will have to use your imagination to picture. The idea of sleeping with an alien and enjoying it is not everyone’s cup of tea.
