Book Review: Bayou Beloved

So, this is going to be a new thing that I am going to start on the blog: book reviews. I love reading. It has been a part of my life since I was a young child. A little bit of warning: I tend to read a lot of romance novels. They can range from tame to explicit. I am not against other genres, but romance is a happy place.

The first book that I am reviewing is Bayou Beloved by Lexi Blake.

I have been a Lexi Blake (LB) fan for years. I love her writing style. If you can make me laugh while reading your book, you get bonus points. Most people might know her for her Masters & Mercenaries® series. Most of her series today started out with this main group. Each series, however, has its own cast of characters that makes it stand out in its own way.

Quaid Havery is the lawyer for Papillon, Louisana.  He is following in his father’s footsteps and ensuring his family is cared for.  Jayna Cardet is a recent divorcee trying to find a place in her hometown.  Once a powerful attorney in New Orleans, she is now forced to barter for clients.  These two love a good debate and the challenge of debating each other.  Family and past events have a way of making them doubt themselves and each other.

I found that this book was a fun read.  It flowed well and had some good scenes.  Was there smut? Yes, but you will be able to handle it.  There are only a few scenes of it.  The story holds its own.  What I found to be the most interesting part of the book is that Quaid knew instantly that he was in love with Jayna.  While Jayna had a crush on Quaid when she was younger, her divorce jaded her.  She has to figure out who she is and how to bounce back while being back in the trailer park where she grew up.

I would definitely recommend this book. It’s not overly dark or smutty. Characters from previous books do come up, but you don’t have to read the previous books to know what’s going on. It’s a good book for a lazy afternoon. If you have any recommendations, please feel free to leave a comment.

you’ve gotta read Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree. It’s a cozy high fantasy book, but it is smut free lol
