One thing you know about my family is that we go out and do things. My family has been known to go to Broadway plays, watch live sports, and attend concerts, among many other things one can do in any city. Tonight is no exception, we went to see MJ the musical in Birmingham, Alabama. So we went on a little day trip, or a side quest as my friends and I like to call them. ☺️
When my aunt called to say she had gotten tickets to see MJ the musical in Birmingham, Alabama, I, of course, said yes. It is one of the shows that I have wanted to see for a long time. On TikTok, I would see glimpses of the show and posts from other Broadway accounts. They all talked highly of the show. I love seeing Broadway plays when they come to Atlanta. This is the first time that I’ve done a day trip for a show.
The show takes place during the planning of Michael Jackson’s 1992 record-breaking Dangerous tour. A tour that we now know to be an iconic tour for Michael. MJ also goes over some of the highs, lows, and trauma that made him one of the best artists of all time. Of course, the soundtrack featured songs made popular by Michael and his family. The choreography was amazing. One thing I liked about the show was how it started. The stage was set up, and then people came onto it. Except it looked like they were just getting there. People were talking and stretching; musicians were tuning their instruments. Then someone came out and said that Michael was coming. It was a wonderful way to grab everyone’s attention.
If you can see the MJ musical, please do. It was a lot of fun and had me almost dancing in the aisle. I know it’s a faux pas, but people were singing along with the music, which I didn’t mind. While going over his life, they hinted at the controversies Michael faced, but they didn’t go into detail. It also shows Michael’s drug use and what might have been the start of it. So if that is something that you can’t handle, you might not want to go. 😅
