Book Review: The Seven Rings by Nora Roberts Book 3 of the Lost Brides Trilogy

Finally made it to the last book in the Lost Brides series. This book started very slowly.  By this point, the main couples were together and had an idea for how to get rid of Hester Dobbs from the house. The first half was basically a review of everyone’s lives and accomplishments.  There were occasional outbursts from Dobbs, but they were able to handle them.  It was around the halfway point that the story picked up speed.

At the end of the first act, Sonya’s ex-fiancé makes an appearance at her house.  After he made it known that he was not going to leave, the ghosts of the house let him know that he was not welcome.  This is the start of a shift.  Sonya calls Trey to tell him what happened, and Trey gets to the house.  He takes pleasure in his plan to have the ex arrested and tried.  This cements the couples together.  This is one of the first times the ghosts make their presence known, besides a few little things.  Clover actually speaks to the ex, letting him know to get out of the house.

One of the ways they let Hester know she has no power is by opening more rooms in the manor.  This leads them to uncover more of the house’s and the area’s history.  Over time, Sonya and Cleo become part of the community.  They host events and even help start a museum. Doing this makes Hester want them out more and more.  Everything comes to a head when she entangles Owen, Sonya’s cousin.  Her goal was to have him kill everyone in the house.  He manages to stop himself.  But just barely.

While this book has a slow start, it is a fantastic ending for the trilogy.  Nora Roberts has an incredible writing talent.  She keeps the reader intrigued with the story, the action, the drama, and even the tears. This is not a smut series; this trilogy would qualify as romantic suspense.  This is a good start for someone wanting to get into the romance genre without being hit in the face with sex scenes.

Until next time, be safe and have fun!
