I have been a fan of Nora Roberts since I was in eighth grade. I remember reading her when she wrote Harlequin romance novels. I remember how sad I was that she would not finish her Mackenzie series (one of my favorites). Seeing her growth over the years has just made me love her writing even more. When I started her book Inheritance, I was halfway through it when I decided to read the whole series. I will be making a post about each book.

The book opens as Sonya walks into her home and finds her fiancé sleeping with her cousin. I knew that was going to be a good book when she didn’t have a pity party. She kicked her cousin and her fiancé out and canceled the wedding. I was glad she took a stand right away, and she didn’t feel guilty about what she did. Thinking that she can get past this, she decided to put herself into her work. Only to have her angry fiancé sabotage her work. While she is trying to figure out her future path in life, she finds out that her father, who passed when she was young, was actually a twin. Not only that, but her father’s brother left her a house in Maine. Finding out she now owns a home in Maine, and that her father was a twin. Mind you, she is finding this out as she opens her own design studio.
When she gets to the house, she finds it haunted. Not random knocking, or something simple. There is a ghost that communicates with music, a ghost that cleans the house (I wouldn’t mind that ghost), and even a ghost that plays with her dog. There is also a very dark ghost named Hester Dobbs. She is a problem. While getting along with the other ghost is possible, Hester makes it known that she does not like Anyone in Sonya’s family, or anyone being happy in the house. Hester is why this is called the Lost Bride Trilogy. She kills a bride, or new mother, every generation and steals their wedding ring.
It shows the characters’ overall determination to resolve the issue of the hunt. One of the main things that was brought up in several chapters is that Sonia is having dreams where the previous victims, the lost brides, are telling her she needs to find the rings. While trying to find the rings, Sonya is having dreams about different brides and their deaths. The dreams also show Hester’s involvement, even as a spirit.
One interesting thing is the people around her reaction to the ghosts. It ranges from shock to awe, with a little bit of fear. Her friends and newfound family come together to figure out how to find the rings and to get rid of Hester for good. The story ends in a cliffhanger; this is a trilogy after all. I am about to start the next book in the series, The Mirror. Come back for that review!
