Recently, I just started a new manga. Of course, I looked for something on the smutty side. Imagine my surprise when I learned they were making an anime out of it. This is the first time I have started reading a manga in synch with the anime. Quite exciting. I noticed that manga adaptations and book adaptations have something in common. The print version is better than the anime/movie adaptations. This week’s review is Yakuza Fiance by Asuka Konishi.

This story isn’t a straightforward romance. It’s a very violent love story. Yoshino’s grandfather is the head of the yakuza in Osaka, Japan. One day, she finds out that her grandfather has set up an arranged marriage for her. The next thing she knew, she was living with her fiance’s family in Tokyo. Kirishima looks good on paper. He’s hot, very intelligent, incredibly charming. However, Yoshino feels like there is more to him. After a confrontation that leads to violence, she finds out just how much of a façade he had in place.

So far, this story is good. I like stories that remind me of soap operas. This one intrigues me and is the beginning of a love triangle. I am excited about where this series is going and hope the momentum continues.
