Book Review: Bad Intentions

This week’s book review took me back to being a young teenager watching teen soap operas, i.e., Beverly Hills 90210.  So much teen angst and things that were going on that could be quickly resolved, or they shouldn’t be involved in any way.  Luckily, this is fiction because I think CPS should probably be involved. 😅   This week’s book is Bad Intentions by Mila Kane.

This book is part of a series called “Hellions of Hade Harbor.” but can be read as a standalone.   It takes place in the fictional town of Hade Harbor.  It is an affluent town known for the high school hockey team called the Ice Gods.  Lily is the coach’s daughter. She’s an honor student and very awkward. She aims to attend college away from home, where she can be more than the coach’s daughter.  Transfer student Cayden is Hade Harbors’ hope for a state championship.  He comes from the foster system in a neighboring town.  Life has not been fair to him.  Seeing Lily reminds him of all the things he missed out on.  The wrongs that have been done to him.  A situation happens where Lily’s dad becomes an emergency foster parent for Cayden.  The two form a weird relationship that goes between bullying and a kind of friendship.  That friendship gets smutty; it gives soap opera vibes.

This is one of the books in which many things could have been avoided if the two main characters had just talked to each other.  When they finally do speak, they come to an understanding.  Of course, this wouldn’t be a soap opera if there wasn’t conflict.  Let’s be honest.  There are moments where Cayden is an asshole to the core.  He does things where you have to look at him suspiciously.  Lily has some moments where she is the level-headed person in the book.  Then she does something, and I’m questioning how smart she is.

This was a good book. There were moments when I knew what would happen, and then a curveball was thrown, making it more entertaining. I was thrilled when Cayden and Lily got together.   I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
