Walking around the bookstore to get ideas of what to read for my book reviews, I must let the book covers call me. If the book covers look attractive, I will pick them up to see what it is about. This has helped me because it has allowed me to find new authors to read—case in point, this week’s book review, The Chase by Elle Kennedy. The cover has the lower half of a young woman’s face, with her hands tucked under her chin. I don’t know why I was pulled towards this book, but I was.

Summer is starting her junior spring semester at Briar University. She had some setbacks at her previous college and was trying to have a fresh start. However, a series of bad events caused Summer to doubt the future. Having to find new accommodations, Summer is now roommates with 3 of her older brother’s former roommates. One of whom she’s had a crush on since she met him. Colin (Fitz) does not know how to handle his feelings for Summer. He is also trying to figure out his future. While double majoring in Graphic Design and Computer Programming, he’s trying to figure out how to get his own video game just right.
Due to a series of miscommunications and hurt feelings, it takes a little more than half of the book before our two protagonists can even come close to admitting their feelings for each other. My common thought while reading this is that they are so young. 😂 It felt like if they had just talked to each other, this book would have been over in half of the time. It was a fun, a bit frivolous read. Granted, many of the books I read tend to be very frivolous. I enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the sequel.
