Book Review: A Court of Thorns and Roses

For the most part, I am not a big fantasy reader.  I don’t read a lot of historical romance; it depends on the author or if the book grabs my interest.  I saw this book all over TikTok, but it didn’t catch my attention.  It wasn’t until I was talking about the books I was reading with my friend Emily that she recommended this title to me. Always up for a challenge, I decided to give it a try.  Today’s book review is A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas.

Like I said earlier, I am not a fantasy or historical reader.  The book must hold my interest, and this book does that.  The book begins with the main character, Feyre, trying to get food for her family.  She makes a decision that changes her life forever. Coming to terms with the consequences of her actions forces Feyre into the Fairies’ territory to make amends.  She learns quickly that she cannot trust her senses or the people around her.  This journey helps her to become strong and find love in the Spring Court.  Some of the violence in this book is shocking.  I do like that the author shows the effect that it has on her.

One thing I didn’t like was the ending, but that was on purpose because this is part of a series. There are more adventures with Feyre to come, and I am very excited about them. While there are some sexy scenes, this book is not very smutty. The story holds its own and makes up for it. Overall, this was a very good book and a fun read.
