*WARNING: VERY GRAPHIC SCENES AND SMUT*

While I do like to read, I have a very hard time figuring out what book to read. I use various options to figure out if a book is worth it. One of my favorite places to go is TikTok. Booktok, a TikTok subculture, usually gives me some good recommendations. This week’s review is one of the first suggestions that I got from Booktok. The book is Butcher and Blackbird by Brynne Weaver.

This is not a typical romance novel, which is one of the reasons that I liked the book so much.  Sloane and Rowan are both vigilante serial killers.  They are serial killers who kill serial killers. As luck would have it, they met by targeting the same person.  While Rowan fell instantly for Sloane, Sloane not so much.  During their first meeting, they decided to compete with each other.  They will target the same person, and whoever kills the target first wins.  Oddly enough, this is when some of the more entertaining parts of the story happen.  Since the story is unconventional, friendship is formed during the yearly competition, which grows into powerful feelings.  Once the romance/smut scenes happen, they are very potent.  While I enjoyed the book, there is a scene with one of the competition targets that is not for the faint of heart.  It’s very graphic and not for those with a weak constitution.

That being said, I did enjoy reading this book. I would definitely recommend it. The love story between the two protagonists is delightful and endearing, making up for some of the more graphic scenes in this book.
