Book Review: Legends & Lattes

This book is the first book that I have read in a long time that is outside of my genre.  I was at my part-time job and saw one of my coworkers reading it.  I found the cover and title to be intriguing.  I asked them how it was, and they said they loved it.  I took a chance and added it to my to-be-read (TBR) list.  The book is Legend and Legends by Travis Baldree.  This book takes place in a Dungeons and Dragons type world.  Magic and creatures of all kinds are in this book.  It flows so easily that you hardly notice.

After many years of being a mercenary, Viv has decided that it is time to retire.  She has discovered an elven invention called coffee and wants to build a coffeehouse.  The problem is that no one knows what coffee is.  This book details Viv’s journey from being a lonely soldier to having friends and a community all her own.  I loved how the author portrayed café life in this book.  Having worked in several cafes, I can tell you that the author did an accurate job. ☺️ From the students coming to study and not buying anything.  To the people who had crushes on the workers.  I have seen it all.

This not being my usual genre, it took a moment to get into. Once I got into the story, reading it took little time. It was a quick read. The story doesn’t just revolve around the coffeehouse; things pop up, and Viv must remember that she is not swinging her sword anymore. She has to come up with creative ways to please mob bosses, her neighbors, and patrons. I would definitely recommend this book. There isn’t any smut, but there is romantic tension.
