Creature Comforts

What do you do when you want to relax, nap, or focus on something?  When you can’t decide what to watch or to read?  What I do is go to my trusty standbys or creature comforts.  Merriam-Webster Dictionary states that creature comforts are something (such as food, warmth, or special accommodations) that gives bodily comfort.  Basically, things that make you happy.  For me, it’s rereading or rewatching something.  It’s one of my quirks.  I am not one for watching regular TV,  but the shows I do watch, I have watched over and over.

Take, for instance, The Simpsons. Growing up, it was my ultimate favorite show. I currently own all of the DVDs that are out. If I need to zone out to clean, work on a task, or even take a nap, I put The Simpsons on. The nostalgia of the first time I watched an episode is an amazing feeling. Another favorite show that I do this with is Fruits Basket. It’s an anime that I just adore. I feel like I can quote both the subbed and the dubbed versions.

My other creature comfort is rereading books.  There are books that are over 20 years old that I have read hundreds of times.  Yet I can still laugh and enjoy it like it’s the first time.  It’s cliché, but it’s like seeing an old friend.  On a lazy rainy day, when I don’t feel like doing anything, I pull out a book and get sucked into a new world.  Add some music and hot tea, and you have my version of a perfect day.

These are the things that comfort me in my daily life. What you like might be different or similar. I hope that whatever it is gives you a ray of sunshine on a drab day.
